We know that improving work will lead to better H&S outcomes, but how to go about it? Dr Rebecca Michalak – Dr Becs – outlines the SMART framework as one means to improve what she calls ‘DUMMY’ work - poorly designed roles that are harmful to workers, and in being so, destroy value for business. She puts out a call for work design to ‘grow up’ - to adopt an evidence-based approach that prevents harm, and lays the foundation for worker and business prosperity.
Dr Rebecca Michalak, Managing Director, Psychsafe (Australia)

This year marks 50 years since New Zealand embarked on a unique endeavour to deliver injury prevention initiatives and no-fault personal injury cover for everyone in the country. Since then, ACC has grown through strong collaboration and partnership with communities, health providers, businesses, and New Zealanders. The organisation has become a cornerstone of New Zealand’s healthcare system and is now looking ahead to the next stage of its evolution. In this presentation you are invited to hear about:
ACC’s vision to champion injury prevention as both an influencer and a collaborator with industry. Andy will provide a ‘sneak peek’ of what is being co-designed with some top New Zealand businesses to help reduce injuries that occur outside of the workplace but lead to time off work.
Insights from ACC’s collaborative trial with industry partners and businesses to support their injured employees back to work, and how this could reshape the recovery at work programme in your workplace.
How ACC is changing the way it works with customers, including businesses, to provide an improved end-to-end experience and support rehabilitation outcomes.

We are all familiar with the “3 Cs” requirements of the HSW Act: to consult, cooperate and coordinate with other PCBUs. But HILLARY BENNETT argues there are two more Cs necessary to make this work, namely Collaboration and Care. Genuine collaboration, she says, requires PCBUs to sit down with each other and design a way to make work efficient, effective and safe. If all parties are united in their wish to Care for workers and others affected by work, then Collaboration will come easily. She will discuss ways to achieve this, with reference to case studies.
Dr Hillary Bennett, Partner, Leading Safety

This Health and Safety Capability Program aimed to strengthen WHS systems and build capability in personnel across four First Nations Councils. The program, led by fr&nk with a culturally appropriate approach, focused on setting priorities, building systems, and developing resources to increase WHS management capabilities.
